Samuel De Champlain Bridge Receives a Major Award

The Samuel De Champlain Bridge, a major reference for SYSTRA IBT, has won the Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI) International Transportation Structure Award.

The main gateway to the city of Montreal, Canada, this cable-stayed bridge was inaugurated in June 2019, following four years of work by SYSTRA IBT in a Design Joint Venture with TYLin and SNC Lavalin. In addition to designing the steel decks and the approach spans, we were responsible for the independent certification of the main span and the construction supervision.

Commenting on this latest acknowledgment of our position among the global players in bridge engineering, Zac McGain, General Manager at SYSTRA IBT in Canada said: “This award complements the awards from the NCSEA, ACEC already received for this bridge among others. In making this award the PCI considered several factors, among which the accelerated and parallel construction techniques employed to help meet the 48-month schedule which was key.”

The PCI, rewarding excellence for more than 50 years
Founded in 1954, the PCI is the technical institute and trade association for the precast/ prestressed concrete industry. The PCI Design Awards program promotes innovation in the design and construction community, demonstrating the nature of infrastructure projects that are increasingly sustainable, more cost-effective, aesthetically pleasing, and constructed more quickly.

Each year more than 100 projects are submitted for the competition in the four main categories. The 2020 PCI Design Awards ceremony will take place in the United States at the PCI Convention in Fort Worth, Texas, from March 3rd to 7th 2020.
